Shops

With both charming, independent retailers and bigger well-known brands, whether you’re looking to treat yourself or someone else, you’ll find the perfect souvenir…

Towns and villages have a wealth of unique, independent shops selling all manner of local, high quality goods, such as fine malts, crafts, sweets, jewellery and artwork. To complement these are the larger chains offering everything you need for your stay, from camping gear to technical clothing.

The Cairngorms National Park has a rich variety of shops from big, global brands, to small, charming independent local retailers.

There's a wealth of unique independent shops throughout the Park with specialisms in crafts, whisky, cheese, tartan (like Lamont Sporrans, in Braemar, right), sweets... so you are bound to find the perfect gift from the Cairngorms.

Alternatively, if you want to take advantage of the area as a outdoor gear hub - then head towards the high street in Aviemore where you will find a clutch of well-known brands.

If you like to shop until you drop and have a vast array of choice under one roof, then head to Spey Valley Shopping at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort.

(You won't have to drop, either, as there is a handy cafe right next to the shop).

Many visitor attractions, such as museums and adventure parks, often have their own shops, too, if you want a token of your trip.

Similarly, many of the local producers, from estate farm shops to distilleries, also have their own shops where you can buy produce directly from them.

FAQs

Where is the best place to shop in the Cairngorms National Park?

It depends on what you are looking to buy. If you are after outdoor gear, then Aviemore is a specialist hub for all the main brands and you’ll find a huge range available to suit every price range and ability. However, the towns and villages have a wealth of small independent retailers offering high quality, and often locally produced, goods and so are well worth a visit.

Where can I buy local produce?

There are 60 estates in the Cairngorms National Park covering about 75% of the entire area and you can buy produce direct from many of these estates. For example, Rothiemurchus has its own farm shop where it sells its local produce, as well as produce from other local companies.

What are the most popular gifts bought in the Cairngorms?

There are many gifts unique to the Cairngorms you can buy on your trip. For instance, you could buy a fine local malt, or a piece of art depicting the landscape from one of our galleries, or a locally-made craft work or, even, some high quality outdoor gear because Aviemore is one of the best places in the UK to buy specialist equipment. Bear in mind, too, that many attractions – from Landmark to the Highland Folk Museum – have their own gift shops.
