Hidden Galleries of the Cairngorms

The Cairngorms National Park is home to many talented artists, photographers and crafters.
Here we explore some of the galleries in the Park which showcase not just local artists but also works from the rest of Scotland and further afield.


Chapel House Arts, Kingussie.

Mon-Sat 10am-4.30pm

Badenoch’s newest arts venue,  featuring the workshops of Anne Bridgen’s ‘Fused And Light’ Glass Art with tuition sessions and the open working studio of David Fallow’s ‘Spirit of Cairngorms’. Other local artists work on display include Ann Vastano.

Loch an Eilein GalleryRothiemurchus, Aviemore.

10am-4pm daily until the end of Oct

Loch an Eilein gallery is a fantastic showcase of the artistic talent in this area with a wide range of fine art and locally made crafts including; jewellery, Harris tweed, felt work, engraved and fused glass, sculpture, woodturning, drift away art, soaps and much more.

The Iona Gallery, Kingussie.

Mon-Sat 11am-5pm

The Iona gallery features international, national and local artwork, hosts events and workshops and promotes visual art. There are a variety of exhibitions taking place in Sep including the High Life Highland ‘Flow Country’ exhibit and works by Ronald King, Rod Purcell and Ronnie Thain.

Eleven41 Gallery, Kingussie.

Mon-Sat 10am-5pm

A photographic gallery dedicated to adventure, those devoted to it, and those who are looking for it. This September and October Ed Smith’s latest work from his journeys along the North-West coast of Scotland will be on display. Showcasing the rugged landscape, dramatic light and sublime seascapes.

1896 Gallery, Boat of Garten.

Wednesday – Saturday 10am – 5pm 

The gallery was created to share and celebrate the amazing landscape of Scotland through our Scottish based artists and resident photographer James Gordon, as well as the creative 3D work of artisans and craftmakers. This combination of art and craft is a feast for the eyes, and hopefully it will inspire and arouse the art in the soul.

Carrbridge Gallery, Carrbridge.

Mon-Fri 10am-5pm, Sat 10am-2pm 

The Carrbridge gallery and artist studio is home to the work of gallery members Jeff, Alice and Amy Buttress. Original paintings, prints and cards, ceramics, chainsaw carvings, dichroic glass and ceramic jewellery can all be found.

The Butterworth Gallery, Aboyne.

Thurs-Sun 11am-4pm

The Butterworth Gallery hosts a permanent display of original artwork by renowned Scottish landscape artist Howard Butterworth and his daughter Mary Louise famed for her atmospheric night scenes of Aberdeen.

Lost Gallery, Strathdon.

Wed-Mon 11am-5pm

Set deep in the tranquillity of Glen Nochty, the Lost Gallery is home to a wonderful collection of eclectic paintings, sculptures and photography. The guiding policy at the Gallery is simply stated. It is to show works by modern artists who most excite the owners, artist Peter Goodfellow and his wife Jean.

Braemar Gallery, Braemar.

Thurs-Mon 10am-5pm 

The Braemar Gallery has an ever-changing display of works from various artists and craft makers including; paintings, etchings, prints, sculpture, pottery and jewellery. The aim in the gallery is to keep it varied and vibrant and to enjoy seeking out new and interesting artists as well as selling more established names in Scottish Art. The gallery also holds occasional workshops and live music events.
