Hidden Galleries of the Cairngorms
The Cairngorms National Park is home to many talented artists, photographers and crafters. Here we explore some of the galleries in the Park which showcase not just local artists but also works from the rest of Scotland and further afield.

A photographic gallery dedicated to adventure, those devoted to it, and those who are looking for it. This September and October Ed Smith’s latest work from his journeys along the North-West coast of Scotland will be on display. Showcasing the rugged landscape, dramatic light and sublime seascapes.

The gallery was created to share and celebrate the amazing landscape of Scotland through our Scottish based artists and resident photographer James Gordon, as well as the creative 3D work of artisans and craftmakers. This combination of art and craft is a feast for the eyes, and hopefully it will inspire and arouse the art in the soul.
The Butterworth Gallery, Aboyne.

The Butterworth Gallery hosts a permanent display of original artwork by renowned Scottish landscape artist Howard Butterworth and his daughter Mary Louise famed for her atmospheric night scenes of Aberdeen.
Spey Bank Studio, Grantown-on-Spey
Located in the heart of Grantown-on-Spey, Spey Bank Studio is a welcoming art gallery, shop and creative space housed within the town’s beautifully restored former Bank of Scotland building. Run by Cairngorms artist Angus Grant and Jane Candlish, the gallery celebrates the wealth of artistic talent found across the Cairngorms National Park, showcasing a regularly changing programme of exhibitions featuring Scottish artists alongside Angus’s own distinctive work inspired by the local landscape.
Visitors can browse original paintings, photography, ceramics, sculpture, prints, gifts and handcrafted pieces, or take part in one of the studio’s ceramics workshops and practical classes, which cater for beginners and more experienced makers alike. With its gallery, artist’s studio, pottery and creative workshop space all under one roof, The Spey Bank Studio is a wonderful place to discover local art, meet the artist and perhaps even create something of your own during a visit to the Cairngorms.
