5. Highland Folk Museum, Newtonmore

The Highland Folk Museum is Britain’s first open air museum and sits on a site a mile long. A museum that lives and breathes and lets you journey into the past. The kids will love the play park and township houses and you can bribe them with a trip to the old fashioned sweetie shop. If you are a fan of the books and TV series Outlander which has a cult following, you have come to the right place.  In 2014 the 1700s Highland Township was used as a filming location for the TV series.

6. Highland Wildlife Park, Kincraig

At the Highland Wildlife Park you will find Scottish wildlife and endangered animals of the world’s mountains and tundra in a beautiful Highland setting. Home to the UK’s first polar bear cub for 25 years, it is an exciting time at the Park. When you enter the Park you can drive around the main reserve and then check out the walk around area on foot. The Park is home to native species such as the Scottish Wildcat and Capercaillie as well as Amur Tigers, Snow Leopards, Polar Bears, Northern Lynx, European Grey Wolf and Japanese Macaque. We highly recommend taking the guided land rover trip round the main reserve or attending the daily talks. At no extra cost to your entry ticket this is a great way to get insight from the animal keepers as you drive around.
