5 more wee walks in the Cairngorms

There are some fantastic walks in the Cairngorms National Park. Here we highlight 5 “wee walks” in celebration of “Wee Walks Week” 9th-15th September.

1. River Tilt Walk, Blair Atholl | 1.5 miles

This circular walk meanders through the woods alongside the River Tilt. As you journey along look out for the Wishing Well and Witches Rock on the south bank and also the Grotto where Queen Victoria was said to take tea on the north bank. Part of the local Historic Trail but beware there are in places steep drops down to the river.

2.  Golf Course Circular, Kingussie | 2miles

The Golf Course Circular walk will takes you on a tour of Kingussie and through the birch woodland. Take in the views over Loch Gynack midway and go back in time as you pass the Glen Gynack Township.

3. Creag Choinnich, Braemar | 2 miles

The short but steep climb to the top of Creag Choinnich is worth it for the magnificent views over the Braemar area and you can spot Braemar Castle below. The Gaelic meaning is ‘mossy hill’.

4. River Walk, Nethy Bridge | 1.5miles

This all abilities path travels alongside the River Nethy and is a lovely easy walk. Pass the pool on your left not far from the start where you can take a dip to cool down on a hot day.

5. Old Military Road, Tomintoul | 2.5 miles

Follow in the footsteps of 18th century Redcoats along this section of Old Military Road. The entire road links Corgarff Castle near Strathdon, Braemar Castle in Deeside and north to Fort George on the coast. This section of walk affords great views over the Conglass Valley and to Ben Rinnes.
