The Cairngorms National Park is filled with many beautiful places to stay including, traditional cottages and wee but ‘n’ bens. Here we share a small selection of some of the best cosy cottages that come with the extra bonus of a picturesque view in the Cairngorms…

1. Railway Cottage – Kincraig

Railway Cottage is a traditional workers’ cottage dating back to the early 1900’s. Nestled between Balavil estate and the RSPB nature reserve by Insh Marshes, there is no shortage of spectacular views of the Cairngorms. Recently restored to a high standard, the cottage is a great little holiday retreat any time of year; toasty warm in the winter; and a fantastic garden, with alfresco dining and fire pit to enjoy in the summer.


2. The Croft at Avielochan Cottages

Avielochan cottages are situated by a small loch on the outskirts of Aviemore with spectacular views of the Cairngorm Mountains. One of the most idyllic is The Croft boasting lots of charm and character and the perfect escape from everyday life.


3. The Mole Catcher’s Cottage – Carrbridge

A newly renovated holiday home in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. This luxury self-catering cottage can be found in the village of Carrbridge. The cottage, with its distinctive red tin roof, is situated on the banks of the River Dulnain with impressive views of the famous old packhorse bridge.


4. Secret Bothy – Killiecrankie

6. Tomidhu -Crathie

Full of character and charm, Tomidhu is a modernised traditional farmhouse.  Located in the hamlet of Crathie less than one mile from Balmoral Castle. The house is set within a fenced garden and has beautiful open views from all rooms. The living rooms are fitted with wood burning stoves making this a cosy home at all times of the year.


7. Ballintean Cottage, Glen Feshie

Beautifully located, two minutes walk from the River Feshie, this cosy cottage is well placed to enjoy many trails for walking and cycling. The Cottage is set in a stunning elevated position amongst scattered woodland where you can enjoy nightly visits from pine marten and badgers.


8. Garden Cottage – Glen Tanar Estate

Glen Tanar Estate has lots of beautiful self-catering cottages but one of our favourites is ‘Garden Cottage’, a traditional granite cottage set cosily in a quiet corner of Glen Tanar’s walled garden. Originally the home of the Head Gardener, Garden Cottage sits in a secluded corner of the estate’s walled garden.


9. Feshiebridge Cottage – Kincraig

An idyllic luxury riverside cottage with stunning views over the River Feshie. It is ideally situated in the small and quiet settlement of Feshiebridge, with excellent tracks for walking, cycling and enjoying the fabulous scenery and wildlife. Sleeping up to 6 adults and features a fantastic BBQ hut perfect for relaxing with friends or family.


10. Downie’s Cottage – Near Braemar
