Inverallan House

Step into the shoes of a Scottish laird or lady.

Built in 1857, this former sporting lodge has been transformed into a tranquil Highland getaway, offering comfort and relaxation for holidaymakers.

Its generous living space makes it ideal for large groups. The singletrack road leading up to Inverallan House sets the scene perfectly for what’s ahead: a peaceful stay surrounded by nature. It’s still very much a sporting lodge at heart, and continues to host fishing trips throughout the season.

That makes a stay here a rare opportunity, with a taste of life on a Highland sporting estate. Living Once inside, the sense that this Victorian home has a history is immediate.

The high-ceilinged entrance hall, which doubles as a second lounge, is decorated with wall tapestries and fishing memorabilia, and features a traditional fireplace — coupled with the welcome addition of a woodburner. The main lounge, with its open fire and comfortable seating at every turn, is another cosy space.

This room includes the perch of dreams for readers: a window seat in the grand bay window overlooking the River Spey.

If guests are looking for some peace and quiet, head to the wee reading room next door, which also has a desk (if you must work). Dining The regal dining room, lit by an incredible chandelier, easily accommodates 15 people.

Meals are overseen by the prominent local figures from times gone by who feature in this room’s oil paintings. Kitchen For many years, Inverallan House operated as a catered lodge, so the kitchen is built for commercial use.

Catering remains an option; simply let us know so we can organise this for you. Otherwise, self-catering guests benefit from a super functional kitchen.

Every appliance and utensil you could wish for is here, including a 10-ring gas hob, a KitchenAid mixer, a Magimix food processor and Le Creuset cookware.

There’s plenty of space for ingredients, too, and no need to worry about where to put the Chablis: the separate utility room has a wine fridge. If guests wish, the lodge’s housekeeper will visit daily to help with tidying and cleaning. Bedrooms and bathrooms All the bedrooms have ensuite bath or shower rooms.

There’s one bedroom on the ground floor, accessed via a paved courtyard, four bedrooms on the first floor and two on the second.

All are bright, with impressive views over the grounds, the surrounding woodlands and farmland, the Cromdale hills, or the River Spey.

You’ll find plenty of storage, too.

Need a little extra privacy? Two of the bedrooms on the first floor – a double and a single – are connected via their own private corridor. Outdoors Inverallan House’s garden is fully enclosed, so children and dogs can roam free and make the most of the rural setting — and the flat section of lawn that’s perfect for ball games.

This lodge’s unique position overlooking the River Spey makes it popular among anglers, too.

We can help you arrange fishing permits and a ghillie..
