Darroch Learg is an independent, family-run hotel in Ballater, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park.

Built in 1888 and cared for by the Franks family since 1961, it offers a relaxed Highland retreat in a peaceful setting on the wooded slopes of Craigendarroch, with beautiful views across the River Dee valley towards Glen Muick and Lochnagar.

Opening Times

Hotel Over the summer months (April to end of October) the hotel is open seven nights a week. Over the winter months (November to end of March) both the hotel and restaurant are closed on Monday and Tuesday nights. Restaurant Over the summer months (April to end of October) the restaurant is open to residents of the hotel six days a week (closed Tuesdays) and to all five days a week from Wednesday to Sunday. Christmas and New Year 2026/27 The hotel is closed for Christmas from after breakfast on Sunday 20th December 2026 until Monday 28th December 2026 when we re-open for the New Year celebrations. The hotel is then closed from after breakfast on Monday 4th January 2027 until Wednesday 10th February 2027.

How to find us
