TEAM 472 INVITE YOU TO BE TRANSPORTED BACK SOME 60 YEARS OR MORE! 'Mini but awesome!' was one of the recent entries in our visitor's book, 'A little piece of motoring history in the Cairngorms', was another.
In 2009 five local Ballater residents decided to 'save' Box 472 from a sad end.
At their own expense and time they rejuvenated this local landmark to what you see today.
Automobile Association Box 472 (Cambus O' May Box) can be found on the South kerb of the A93, Aberdeenshire, approx 4.5 miles East of the village of Ballater, 250 yards East of the Cambus O' May Hotel entrance and approximately 175 yards West of the B9119 turn off.
Box 472 is the only remaining AA box within the Cairngorms National Park and one of only 8 to10 estimated to be remaining in situ within the United Kingdom from an original 1000 throughout the UK.
The box offers a 'mini museum' that will transport you back to those nostalgic motoring days from years ago.
YOU ARE INVITED TO SIGN THE BOX 472 VISITORS BOOK HOUSED WITHIN THE BOX ITSELF AND VIEW THE UNIQUE AND EXCLUSIVE PHOTOGRAPHS DISPLAYED.
LOCAL MAPS, CAIRNGORMS & GENERAL TRAVEL INFORMATION LEAFLETS ARE AVAILABLE.
Remember to look up and view the unique oil lamp on a pulley system that enabled the patrolman to light up the translucent 'Cambus O' May' signs on the outside of the box at night time.
DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY, THESE IMPORTANT PIECES OF THE UNITED KINGDOM'S SOCIAL HISTORY ARE DISAPPEARING RAPIDLY.
IT'S FREE! NO EXCUSES! VISIT THE BOX 472 WEB SITE FOR THE FULL STORY OF ITS SAVING.
