Repair Cafe Cairngorms has been running since 2021 and our wonderful volunteers turn up one Sunday a month to tackle repairs on a wide range of items from textiles and clothing to lamps, ornaments, small electrical appliances and devices as well as jewellery, spectacles, wood and metal work and garden tools. While all the repairing is going on, there’s also a fabulous cafe with home-baking, hot drinks and plenty of social chatter. It all adds up to a lively and fun afternoon.
It’s a surprisingly satisfying project that helps bring loved items back into full or new use, builds our skills in sourcing and fitting new parts, and, perhaps most of all, reduces the waste that our community sends to landfill. In two years between 2021 and 2023, we have estimated that our repairs improved our community carbon output by the equivalent of 37,000 fewer car miles or of planting 55 trees.
In Boat of Garten Community Hall, doors open at 2pm and close at 5pm. Last repairs accepted at 4.30pm.
Bring us something you’d love to get repaired or just pop in to see what we’re up to.
Traditional Scottish music provided by famed Shetland fiddle player Maggie Adamson along with some of her friends.
We meet monthly on a Friday to discuss and share your book recommendations.
Refreshments available for a donation.
