Naturalist Mike Dilger frequently does both! In this entertaining and informative talk, with clips from BBC’s The One Show, Mike reveals why filming wildlife is difficult and even more so when children are thrown into the mix!

After many tours with local partners in each country, Steve knows Bulgaria and Romania well. His talk features the Rhodopi mountains of Bulgaria and the Carpathians of Transylvania, along with the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria and the Danube Delta of Romania. The birds and mammals of both these Balkan Eastern European states is diverse and exceptional and features many raptors and waterbirds, along with Brown bears and Wolves. Not to be missed!

Rivers are without a doubt my favourite habitat to photograph having been to highland streams, Hampshire’s chalk streams and large midland rivers like the Severn and Trent. Follow me down a British river seeing what they have on show. From drone shots high above to lots of underwater photography this unique talk shows Britain’s river life as never seen before.

Ross received a Churchill Fellowship to explore issues of relevance to our own community in the Cairngorms National Park. He talks about his travels in Cambodia and the Balkan States.

Sandy McCook selects photographs from the files of his late father, Alistair, to present a picture of Nethy Bridge in earlier times.

Jane Macaulay talks about the background to her new book, which charts the story of the famous mountain from its formation to the present day, with a look at historical events, early expeditions to the summit by local people as well as visitors, the development of winter sports and many of the characters involved in its story.

Join us in Abernethy Forest for a behind the scenes masterclass with Cairngorms Connect Venison.

Cairngorms Connect deer stalkers will talk about the methods, equipment, ethics, and sustainability of deer stalking for conservation management and will give a hands on demonstration of lardering the deer.

A local butcher will then teach us about preparing all the different cuts of meat and what they are best used for, and you can even have a go yourself.

We will then relocate to the tepee at the Dell of Abernethy for a live cooking demo over the fire by a local professional chef. Discover creative venison dishes and different ways to incorporate venison easily into our diet. And finally, we’ll share a meal of delicious dishes at a long communal table.

Please note the exact location of the event will be provided upon booking.

It is important that all people have equal access to Cairngorms Connect events.

We don’t want finance to be a barrier to people attending and so have made some tickets available for free or by donation – please take advantage of this if you need to.

Donations go towards our ongoing community engagement work, supporting more people to connect with this landscape. We’re able to offer these ticket options thanks to funding from the Endangered Landscapes and Seascapes Programme.

We are happy to provide for your requirements, wherever possible eg. BSL interpreters, off-road wheelchairs, adapted bikes etc. If have any accessibility requirements, please get in touch.
