Entries will open approximately 6 weeks prior to the race ie late June.

The Glenshee 9 hill race is a 19 mile/5,500ft run across the 9 Munro’s bordering Glenshee Ski Centre in the East Highlands.

The race is run in an anticlockwise circuit across the following summits in this order:-

Creag Leacach (987m)
Glas Maol (1068m)
Cairn of Claise (1064m)
Tom Buidhe (957m)
Tolmount (958m)
Carn an Tuirc (1019m)
Carn Aosda (917m)
Carn a’Gheoidh (975m)
The Cairnwell (933m)
Start and finish is at Glenshee Ski Centre

There is one road crossing after approximately 13 miles (GR NO 147800) This checkpoint is also a cut-off which must be reached by 2.30pm. (ie. 3.5 hours from the start for faster competitiors up to 4.5hours for older age categories). This will be strictly enforced.

Entry Fee
Entry fee includes post race refreshments from Glenshee Catering. All profits from the race will be donated to Braemar MRT who will be providing event safety cover. 300 limit. Closing date Thursday 31st July 2025.

Wave Start
We will operate a two wave start. A 10am start for those in Veteran categories who would like this option (it is not mandatory!) and the main race start at 11am. We would not expect you to pick the 10am start if you are able to comfortably reach the road crossing within 3.5 hours.

Rules
This is a Category A long race and competitors are required to have completed similar events in the last two years.

Entrants must be over 18 years old.

Competitiors will be required to carry full body cover, whistle, map (this map must extend at least 2km beyond your race route in all directions and be waterproof), compass and some emergency food. PLUS any additional clothing dependent on the forecasted weather conditions.

Please note that although it is held in summer, it is Scotland, and well over 50% of the route lies above the 900m contour line. The route is not flagged and there are no water stations. Competitors will cross a number of burns which normally flow even in very dry summers.

AT 2PM – Strathspey Thistle FC v Inverness CT XI followed by STFC Player of the Year awards / ALL DAY – Bouncy castle, beat the goalie and activities for everyone / EVENING 7.45 until 11pm – groove and dance to popular local rock band “CADENCE” in our marquee with licensed bar. Parking at Seafield Park and at Burnfield Avenue car park (150m). Or, walk to the ground in 10mins from the centre of Grantown.

Timed Race, Style Comp, Live Music, Food, Prizes and More

Urban orienteering involves using a map to find controls in the town. Run or walk, the aim is to find the right controls, in the right order. There will be long course and short course options. Courses should take 20-40 minutes. There are pre-printed maps and electronic timing. Families and children are welcome, but children (U16) must be accompanied by an adult. Loch Muick Guided Walk
A fairly level circuit around the spectacular Loch Muick on the Balmoral Estate provides good views of the surrounding mountains and the local flora & fauna.

The walk takes in the impressive Glas-allt Shiel house on the shore of the loch. Queen Victoria built it in 1868 and is nicknamed ” Widow’s House”

There is an optional detour to see some waterfalls, just let your guide know your ability.

Loch Muick – The “loch of the swine” on the Royal Balmoral Estate. See Regeneration of the Highland Environment and the late Queen’s picnic spot (where you can stop for lunch as well). Transport needed.

Morven from Cairngorm Bothies is a there and back route of 16-17km with about 800m of ascent which would equate to approx 8 hrs hrs including stops.

A low Carbon Footprint walk from the Cairngorm Bothies to The Jewel of Deeside; the “Big Mountain” standing alone surveying Mighty Lochnagar; the awe inspiring Cairngorms and beautiful Royal Deeside.

Loch Kinord & Muir of Dinnet Guided Walk
A beautiful circuit around Loch Kinord in the Muir of Dinnet National Nature Reserve. The walk is excellent for nature lovers with plenty of flora and fauna both on and around the loch and in the surrounding birch woodland.

Loch Kinord – a short walk around Loch Kinord in the beautiful Muir of Dinnet National Nature Reserve – full of wildlife on the loch and in the surrounding Birch woodland. Included in the walk is the popular hidden gem; the Burn o’Vat – a fantastic example of a bowl-shaped “pot-hole”; a geological feature carved out by glacial meltwater at the end of the last Ice Age around 10,000 years ago. Please note Transport is needed.

The Rotary Club of Spey Valley is proud to present its second Charity Classic, Sports and EV Car Tour on Sunday May 11th 2025 sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz.

Starting in Aviemore the route of approximately 150 miles takes participants to The Moray Coast, lunch at Cullen returning to Aviemore through Speyside. The tour will conclude with a meal, presentations and prize giving.

Entry is free with donations Macmillan Cancer Support – because cancer can affect the patient’s life in so many ways the charity does whatever it takes to give people the support they need.

CRY- Cardiac Risk in the Young– works to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) and offers support to families affected by YSCD. Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. CRY is a UK registered charity founded in 1995.
