When is this event?
Join us for the 2021 return of the Aviemore Half Marathon and 10k for all, two jaw-droppingly scenic courses set amongst the atmospheric backdrop of the Cairngorms. This year’s event will start and finish at Badaguish, taking you on spectacular new routes using off-road trails through the beautiful forest, loch and mountain scenery of the Glenmore Forest Park.

Aviemore Half Marathon Route
Date: Sat 16th June
Start: 1pm
The start is at Badaguish, approximately 1100 ft above sea level, within the Cairngorm National Park which provides a spectacular backdrop. The route begins on forest tracks that descend to Glenmore as views of Loch Morlich, Cairngorm, and the Northern corries unfold, before a short spell down the logging trail will take competitors to cross the River Luineag.
From there, the route follows shoreside trails and nips for a very short section up the ski road to lead onto a stunning ascent and descent of forest paths above the loch. It then crosses back over the main road to take the long way round the forest tracks before arriving back at Badaguish.
Join the annual Race the Train event supported by Cairngorm Runners and attempt racing the traditional Highland steam train! Race goes through the picturesque Cairngorm National Park, starting at Boat of Garten, along the beautiful Speyside Way, following the tracks of Strathspey Steam Train and finishes in Aviemore, where participants can enjoy a local beer and the well-deserved rest.
Race takes place on Saturday 4th of September at 10.30am, with registration opening at 8.30am at Strathspey Train Station’s car park in Aviemore.

For members of Scottish Athletics: £20
For non-members of Scottish Athletics: £22
This year the exciting opportunity to take a ride in the traditional steam train is reserved for top fundraisers! All participants are encouraged to raise a target of just £100 to support DSUK’s work for disabled communities across the UK. Everyone who reached their target by the event date will be taken on the steam train, from Aviemore to Boat of Garten to start the race.
We are aware that many of our runners are travelling to Aviemore. Our friends at Cairngorm Hotel have generously agreed to offer 10% discount to participants of Race the Trainif you book directly through their website. Be quick, as this is on first comefirst served basis!

Glenmore 24 Trail Race is 24hr trail race where runners complete as many 4mile loops in a 24hr period.
There is also a 12hr race with the same format, with top runner recording 130mile + in the 24hr race and 70miles + in the 12hr race.
In the heart of the Cairngorms and in the shadow of Cairngorm Mountain, join us for an open water swim in this truly spectacular location.
At 300 metres above sea level you can swim in a loch that has one of the highest beaches in the UK!
With distances from 250m to the classic Marathon distance of 10K there is something for everyone.

A brand new ultra trail race based at Mar Lodge near Braemar from High Terrain Events.
The event centre will offer toilets, camping, refreshments and parking with a backdrop of Mar Lodge cared for by National Trust for Scotland.
The route is predominantly following good tracks and trails into the heart of the Cairngorms on a 64km circular route.
Following stunning pine and glen scenery in Glen Derry, the route then follows the Lairig an Laoigh pass to the Fords Avon. The trail then swings east down Glen Avon below the mighty Ben Avon to the scenic waterfalls at the Linn of Avon. The route then turns south past Loch Builg and over the shoulder of Culardoch before descending to the scented pine forests of Invercauld. A quiet track beside the River Dee returns the runners to Mar Lodge.
The race delivery will adhere to the ongoing guidance from Scottish Government and the relevant sport governing bodies in relation to Covid-19
CHSS welcome everyone to take part in this simply fantastic running event set in the sublime and picturesque landscape of Glenlivet in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park.
The event is based at the legendary Glenlivet distillery with superb hospitality and quality event organisation throughout. Runners and Joggers of all levels are very welcome and by taking part you are directly supporting those affected by chest, heart and stroke illness.
