Neo-traditional trio of nonconformist and progressive Scottish folk music Blasting onto the scene, Project Smok is Pablo Lafuente, Ewan Baird and BBC Young Traditional Musician of the year 2020 Ali Levack, whose forward thinking Scottish traditional music has set them apart since their formation in 2017. They released their EP Esperanza in March 2021, after their debut album Bayview was shortlisted for ‘Best Album of the Year’ 2020, nominated for the ‘Belhaven Bursary for Innovation’ 2019 and nominated for ‘Best up and coming Artist’ 2018 at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. Known for their ability to effortlessly blend trad music with contemporary new-age pop influences, Project Smok are at their most comfortable pushing boundaries, making listeners stop and re-evaluate their musical expectations. They do away with any perceived limits of genre from the first note. The close-knit group meld naturally between the innovative, explosive and emotive, drawing outside inspiration from indie pop acts like The 1975, LANY and Bon Iver, to more time-honoured, West Coast styles of playing.
Charismatic Peggy Seeger – singer, songwriter, feminist, icon, Ewan MacColl’s partner and muse – is the undisputed queen of folk and political song.
On this ‘First Farewell’ tour, join Peggy and her son Calum MacColl, an exceptional musician in his own right, for a glorious evening of up-close performance in St. Margaret’s, Braemar.
Expect to hear a mixture of new and traditional songs from Peggy’s huge repertoire, plus some of her and Ewan MacColl’s most loved songs, interspersed with readings from Peggy’s award-winning memoir ‘The First Time Ever’.
There will of course be plenty of audience participation and lots of relaxed family banter.
“An effortlessly joyful and intimate affair”

Moishe’s Bagel was formed in 2003, the lucky meeting of an Edinburgh-based Chilean tango singer and four like-minded musicians. Their music is an intoxicating mix of Eastern European dance, Middle Eastern rhythms and virtuoso performances. According to The Scotsman ‘ they put the class into unclassified’.
As part of the ‘Nae Games Weekend’, a performance of highland dancing will take place at St Margaret’s on Saturday afternoon, giving visitors to Braemar the authentic Highland Games experience. There will be an explanation of highland dancing and expert judges, Vivienne Milne and Alison Gordon will explain how the dancers are judged during competition.
Ashley Fripp is welcomed back to Boat of Garten for his third visit as a guest of The Osprey Music Society. His recital will focus on two of his favourite composers, Chopin and Schubert.
