Outsider Events are excited to bring to you a bigger and better 4th edition of Blair Castle Trail Weekender on the 31 May – 2 June 2024.

The 2024 event features a wider range of trail races and exciting edition of our outdoor cinema, and range of live music on the Saturday evening…

Staged within the grounds of the iconic Blair Castle on the Atholl Estate, this weekend of trail running has races from Kids, 7km right up to the 60km ‘Full Tilt Ultra’.

All respective races start at the event village based in the grounds of Blair Castle which nestles at the base of the Cairngorm national park.

From here on out, depending on your choice of race, runners either loop round past Hercules Gardens and back to the start, fork off up the winding Glen Tilt or head toward the 1009m high summit of Ben Dearg. Which trail will you take?

About this event

After the success of our off road rides the last two years we are mixing it up!

Select either Bikeathon only tickets or Bikeathon plus Family Fundraising Ceilidh* tickets to get your Ceilidh tickets at a discounted price (£5 adult rather than £7.50 and £2.50 child rather than £5). The Ceilidh takes place on Saturday 15th June 7pm – 10pm at the Duke of Gordon Hotel in Kingussie.

The Kingussie Bikeathon is a family-friendly, fun cycling event. A bike based marathon along a marked and marshalled route in the stunning Cairngorms National Park. For over 30 years the Bikeathon has been a favourite date on the family calendar.

Balance Bike Ride

This year we have organised a balance bike ride from Kingussie High School for a ‘Wee Picnic’ before ruturning to the Duke of Gordon. This ride has been included so that we offer an easier, shorter, but still challenging ride for our younger participants. There is a limit of 50 places on this ride and all balance bike riders must be accompanied by an adult.

This ride will be well signposted and marshalled throughout the ride.

We have decided to update to a mixed terrain ride to Glen Feshie and back.

Starting at Kingussie High School, you will make your way up and past Ruthven Barracks and on towards Tromie Bridge. From here we will follow a mixed route of both tarmac and gravel through to Feshiebridge. Following a family friendly, low traffic route, we will then loop through the heart of the Cairngorms. The loop will bring us back through the magnificent caledonian pine forests of the Cairngorms, via hydration stations and feed stations, to bring us back into Kingussie. Finally finishing at the Duke of Gordon Hotel.

The family ride will return the same way. The family ride will be well signed and marshalled.

After the popularity of the longer ride we will be running the more advanced gravel route for experienced riders again. Following the family ride to the feeding station, the adventure route will then strike off into the remote sections of the Cairngorms, sticking to gravel tracks through the mountains and forest to loop back and join the family ride on the way back to Kingussie. Those U14 will not be able to ride this route while those U16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Entry fees are as follows: Advanced route £20, Family ride £15 for adults, £5 for kids and a balance bike ride to Tromie Meadows at £5 for kids and free for accompanying adults. Ticket sales from this community event will raise funds for Kingussie High School*. We encourage participants to raise additional sponsorship for a cause, club or group of their choice.

Registration will be open on the day from 9.30 am with the ‘grand depart’ at 10.30. Take as long as you wish to complete the route and enjoy one of our refreshment stops and entertainment along the way.

We are also asking participants to join us in supporting Mikey’s Line and Cardiac Risk in the Young by raising sponsorship for the ride. Please look out for the Just Giving Team page, on the schools Facebook page, and create a link or collect a sponsor form from the school.

We look forward to welcoming you to Cycle Friendly Kingussie for our 2025 Bikeathon.

*Event entry fees in aid of Kingussie High School Parent Council, Scottish charity number SC045172.

* The Family Ceilidh will be held at the Duke of Gordon and entrance fees will support Mikey’s Line and Cardiac Risk in the Young
