Yes, in 2023 we are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Kingussie Bikeathon and have plans for an extra special event.
Since 1993 the Kingussie Bikeathon has been Scotland’s favourite fun cycling event for all the family.
We are developing plans for an extra special ride in 2023 celebrating all those who have organised, volunteered, rode and raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities over those 30 years
As always we will organise a stunning ride in the Cairngorms National Park that will be well marshalled with frequent refreshment stops and halfway entertainment along with a 30th Anniversary celebration at the finish line.
Keep pedalling

Fundraising dinner, Speyside Hotel, Grantown on Spey, 11 March 2023 at 6pm.
Wheels4Life is a non-profit charity, that provides bicycles to people in great need of transportation throughout the developing world. We work with volunteers in the field, local organisations and non profits, schools, community leaders and health care clinics they help us identify those people in genuine need of a bike. These people are those that live in both primative and remote areas, with no access to, nor the means of affording public transportation. The closest school, doctor, or work place might be as far as 10 to 20 miles away. The gift of mobility can make all the difference to a person’s life and help them to break out of the vicious cycle of poverty.
Between dinner courses three locals will talk about and share : A Lands End to John O’ Groats bike ride, Green and sustainable initiatives in Grantown on Spey and taking part in the World Butchers Challenge in the United States.
Gravelly good times in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park
We’re excited to welcome you back to the magical bit of Scotland that we call home. In September, Graviemore will be pitching camp again at the gorgeous Inshriach estate, among the juniper, scots pine and the local red squirrels and badgers. We’re dreaming of a back-to-basics get together with good riding, good people and good food. Not that we’re averse to a bit of luxury though — Inshriach has us covered with a rustic sauna, wood-fired hot tub and a wild swimming spot, perfect for loosening up tired legs. Sound good? Yeah, we thought so.
It’s not all about the riding… but that is quite important, and we’ve no doubt that our ‘local’, i.e. the Cairngorms National Park, contains more good gravel than a post-modern concept garden, so we’re laying on a buffet of routes for you to choose from:
– Routes are mostly off-road, taking you up the glens on long, flowing gravel tracks, short sections of mellow singletrack and the odd bit of connecting singletrack road. We provide GPX files, you provide your GPS device, as well as access to our Ride with GPS event account allowing you premium features like turn by turn navigation offline maps and PDF maps and cue sheets too! and leave us to worry about the food and campfire for later.
– You may find you work up an appetite… We will have delicious vegan food at camp, talks, music on Saturday night, a fire and of course, plenty of Inshriach’s own gin and local beer and whisky available for purchase on site.
– Everyone is welcome and routes are inclusive, with options from 30km up to 200+ km to suit your mood and willpower! They’re liberally sprinkled with the best coffee/lunch stops in Strathspey as well as heaps of stunning scenery.
– No gravel bike? No problem! A mountain bike with fast tyres will be just fine – BackcountryScot offer bike hire.
– We recomend tyres no smaller than 35mm. We ride on anything from 650/700×45 up to 29×2.3.
The Family friendly Aviemore CycleMore starts at the Old Bridge Inn, Aviemore and ends at the Rothiemurchus Triangle.
Our route starts from the Old Bridge Inn, on the banks of the river Spey. You will cross the river by the old bridge, and follow the old Logging Way cycle route (beside the road) up to Inverdruie. There are 2 road crossings on this section, care is required. You will then turn right, following the minor road gently uphill to Blackpark. The route then forks right on a well-used landrover track, descending slightly to the entrance to Loch an Eilein car park. The clear and wide track continues beside the Loch for 1.5 km before turning left uphill on another clear track. This ascends steadily with a couple of steeper and slightly rougher sections for a further 2.5km to reach the historic Cairngorm Club footbridge.
Once you have negotiated the steps up to the bridge (assistance will be available), you will continue through the pinewoods on a good track. There may be one or two muddy sections here, before the track climbs more steadily to meet the private access road for Rothiemurchus Lodge. Turning left here, there is a level section for 1.5 km towards Loch Morlich. This is the half-way point, but you will have done most of the hard work! Turning right, you will head anti-clockwise around the Loch on forest tracks, emerging onto the Glenmore road at the Hayfield. Refreshments and 1st Aid will be available here, and there are toilets nearby at Glenmore Visitor centre and at Loch Morlich beach.
From the Hayfield, there is a short on road section passing through Glenmore Village, before turning right off the road to join the Old Logging Way. This is an established cycle route, which leads back to Rothiemurchus, and is mostly downhill. The route crosses the road above Coylumbridge, and there is a short pavement section at Rothiemurchus campsite. A further 1.5 km brings you to the finish area at Inverdruie, where you can enjoy a well earned rest, and of course collect your medal!

Thrive Bike is an action packed long weekend of energy, excitement and entertainment.
Our goal is to motivate people to cycle, improve their wellbeing, and help the local community prosper while protecting our environment. With a range of organised rides, events and attractions, all people are welcome and respected at Thrive Bike. Along with our business partners Cyclehighlands, Astar Digital and BioCom, we love Ballater and want to see its community benefit from adventure tourism.
At Thrive Bike we have top bike brands offering demo rides including Headline Sponsor Kona and Project Sponsor Merida.
We have guided electric and non-electric mountain bike rides for adults, including women only, and children. Our partner, Eguide Scotland, provides a mix of guided rides so there is an opportunity to get on a bike no matter your ability. Scottish Adventure are facilitating two road rides in The Ballater Dash and The Ballater Reliability Rides.
The Ballater Dash is a personal challenge designed to test your route planning, navigation and riding skills at your own pace and ability. The Ballater Reliability Rides are self supported on a choice of organised routes. Riders navigate their chosen route and complete the course without external help, other than from fellow riders. We recommend stopping to take photos, or for cakes and coffee!
We have a children’s play area; Stunt Show, Climbing Wall, Sender Ramps and a host of other things to do for non-bikers. You will also learn more about how you can take care of your personal wellbeing and contribute to the community, economy and environment in the Thrive Zone. The Food Zone provides a chance to replenish your energy at one of the local food vendors.
Profits from Thrive Bike will be invested in the local trail network by working with landowners, the Aberdeenshire Trail Association and existing, sanctioned projects.
As we go to press we are securing Guest Speakers and more activities so please visit the website and find us on social media.
