Three years in the making, Riverwoods is a feature-length documentary that shines a light on the perilous state of Scotland’s salmon and tells the compelling story of an inextricable relationship between fish and forest.

We’ve brought together a group of expert scientists, writers and filmmakers to tell a story of loss and lament, but also one of hope. Throughout Scotland, the fractured connections between salmon and the landscapes through which their rivers flow, are gradually being repaired through the foresight and positive actions of many different people.

Riverwoods is a rallying call for restoring more of Scotland’s river catchments and all the life they support.

This four hour (including breaks) guided walk starts at the spectacular Loch Morlich, before winding our way in the shadow of Cairngorm to the fairy green lochan. After some time to soak up the atmosphere, we continue on to the Ryvoan Bothy in its isolated spot.
On the way hear stories from local folklore of infamous cattle thieves, the bloody hand of Glenmore and the King of the fairies as well as having the chance to follow in the footsteps of a 18th Century Highlander by foraging for seasonal wild food and medicine.

A mixture of fine art and craft on show to showcase local talent. The emphasis in this exhibition is more on crafts than fine art, with work rearranged so work from one artist/ craftsperson is in one area so you can appreciate the breadth of their work. Jewellery, glass, wood, tweed, fabrics, ceramics and so much more.

HAMISH NAPIER is a Scottish folk multi-instrumentalist and composer inspired by the heritage and nature of his native landscape of Strathspey. Join us as he performs his award winning new album The Woods (Album of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards) funded by local habitat restoration project Cairngorms Connect. His original March 2020 Woods album launch tour was cancelled just as the national lockdown hit, and postponed to 2021 and then again to 2022. Not one to give up easily, Hamish finally will finally get the chance to share his music inspired by the flora and fauna of Scotland’s native forests. Hamish’s music is innovative, incorporating sounds from jazz, electronica and classical music, while also celebrating and respecting Scotland’s rich musical heritage. Humorous, engaging and heart-warming, Hamish’s performances are often interdisciplinary, incorporating poems and stories about nature, folklore and communities. PATSY REID is one of Scotland’s finest fiddle players. Patsy Reid is one of the most in-demand traditional fiddle players in the UK. She has performed with Dougie Maclean, Kylie Minogue and Zakir Hussain, and recorded with Mark Knopfler, Donald Shaw, Duncan Chisholm, Bella Hardy, Treacherous Orchestra, Tim Edey and many more. INNES WATSON, from Glasgow, is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist with fifteen years of contemporary and traditional Scottish music performance, recording, teaching and producing under his belt and one of the most highly-regarded and sought-after musicians in the field. Innes Watson is a rhythmic guitar wizard and a first class fiddle player to boot, with a unique style and approach. ROBBIE SYNGE studied science but now makes performance, film, objects and other things rooted in choreographic thinking around the body and its meeting points and touch – alone and with others – in landscapes and with objects and materials. He lives in Nethy Bridge, a small village in the Cairngorm National Park, Scotland, where he currently focuses his time on developing community links and contemporary art activity particularly in relation to land use and restoration issues. It is recommended that people take a lateral flow on the day of event, and do not attend if they or anyone in their household has Covid symptoms. People are encouraged to wear face coverings when not seated.

“Full Circle” Arctic Presentation: An Artists Experience

Join artists Louise Emslie and Louise Kernaghan on an artful walk exploring concepts of the physical and metaphorical boundaries within the landscape.

Through a series of creative exercises that Louise and Louise will guide you through, we will ask ourselves ‘what does it feel like to walk along a line on a map and what will we discover along the way?’

We’ll be walking a total distance of 6.5k at a gentle pace along a smooth gravel track. All ages welcome (under 18s accompanied with a responsible adult). For more info, please email louise_emsile@msn.com
