Gravelly good times in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park
We’re excited to welcome you back to the magical bit of Scotland that we call home. In September, Graviemore will be pitching camp again at the gorgeous Inshriach estate, among the juniper, scots pine and the local red squirrels and badgers. We’re dreaming of a back-to-basics get together with good riding, good people and good food. Not that we’re averse to a bit of luxury though — Inshriach has us covered with a rustic sauna, wood-fired hot tub and a wild swimming spot, perfect for loosening up tired legs. Sound good? Yeah, we thought so.
It’s not all about the riding… but that is quite important, and we’ve no doubt that our ‘local’, i.e. the Cairngorms National Park, contains more good gravel than a post-modern concept garden, so we’re laying on a buffet of routes for you to choose from:
– Routes are mostly off-road, taking you up the glens on long, flowing gravel tracks, short sections of mellow singletrack and the odd bit of connecting singletrack road. We provide GPX files, you provide your GPS device, as well as access to our Ride with GPS event account allowing you premium features like turn by turn navigation offline maps and PDF maps and cue sheets too! and leave us to worry about the food and campfire for later.
– You may find you work up an appetite… We will have delicious vegan food at camp, talks, music on Saturday night, a fire and of course, plenty of Inshriach’s own gin and local beer and whisky available for purchase on site.
– Everyone is welcome and routes are inclusive, with options from 30km up to 200+ km to suit your mood and willpower! They’re liberally sprinkled with the best coffee/lunch stops in Strathspey as well as heaps of stunning scenery.
– No gravel bike? No problem! A mountain bike with fast tyres will be just fine – BackcountryScot offer bike hire.
– We recomend tyres no smaller than 35mm. We ride on anything from 650/700×45 up to 29×2.3.
UpBattle Splitboarding has been bringing the splitboard stoke for 10 years and for 2022/23 season UpBattle wants to give more folk the chance to enjoy splitboarding beyond our yearly event at Caringorm.
Teaming up with Snowsport Scotland we are running two events this year to grow our community.
Our yearly event at Cairngorm Mountain takes place on the 18th & 19th of March. The top brands from Jones, Burton, K2, Furberg, Weston, Capita, Spring Break, SparkR&D and Union Bindings will be there allowing you to test some of best splitboard kit out there on UK snow, with an La Mans style Derby race thrown in.
We will showcase all the boards and kit in a designated demo area. Our workshops will focus on advanced snow safety with our good friends from Ortovox and the second a longer tour with route planning. The now legendary raffle will be raising funds for the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue team and don’t forget about the Saturday evening BBQ at the Ravenscraig B&B Aviemore.
Over 2 days, hundreds of established and promising athletes will compete in the Ellis Brigham British Freeski Championships and TSA British Snowboard Championships, battling it out in the Olympic discipline of Slopestyle, plus Banked Slalom and Rail
Jam titles.
Expected athletes include World Cup wonderkids Kirsty Muir and Mia Brookes alongside Olympic veterans Billy Morgan, Jamie Nicholls and Katie Ormerod, plus a whole host of British and International legends. It’s gonna be a big one!
And of course, this wouldn’t be The Brits without a pretty comprehensive off-the-hill schedule, and (as you can imagine) Aviemore will be the epicentre. Of what exactly? Well, let’s just say that in the history of Snowsports, no contest held in Aviemore has ever disappointed and we ain’t gonna be the first…

Scalan was originally the site of a secret Roman Catholic seminary where priests, known as ‘heather priests’ were trained during the 1700s when Catholicism was prohibited.
Join Glenlivet & Inveravon Heritage Ranger Lydia on a guided tour of the site and the mill buildings. In addition to being of historical interest, this beautiful corner of Glenlivet Estate abounds with oystercatchers, curlews, and lapwings in the spring and summer months – be sure to bring your binoculars if you have them.
This event is free but donations are appreciated and go towards the upkeep of the site.
Join us for a walk around Moray’s earliest surviving tower house reputed to have been built for Scotland’s vilest man- Alexander Stewart, the Wolf of Badenoch.
Drumin Castle is an impressive medieval fortification standing on a commanding bluff overlooking the confluence of the River Livet and the River Avon.
Once we get to the castle, you’ll learn a bit about the architecture, history, and the notorious Wolf, whose evil deeds continue to cast a long shadow in Moray’s history.
