When is this event?
The Ghillie’s Larder is Braemar’s Farmers’ Market.
Passionate about the amazing local produce available here in Highland Aberdeenshire, Federica Bertolini and Jasmine Sherry connect the best food and drink makers with buyers — creating a thoughtfully curated, unique market experience for locals, day-trippers and tourists exploring this magical part of Scotland.
There’s always something new to try at the Ghillie’s Larder, with regular guest stallholders complementing monthly favourites that keep visitors returning again and again to the village.
The beautiful surrounds of St Margaret’s Braemar provide indoor market space for you to peruse the stalls on a rainy day, with plenty of outdoor space to relax and enjoy a picnic when the sun shines.
The Ghillie’s Larder regularly features live music from local artists, there to serenade you while you shop and you can combine your visit with a walk or cycle around the hills, glens and forests of Upper Deeside — the perfect family day out!
Details of upcoming markets can be found on social media at facebook.com/theghillieslarder
Fundraising dinner, Speyside Hotel, Grantown on Spey, 11 March 2023 at 6pm.
Wheels4Life is a non-profit charity, that provides bicycles to people in great need of transportation throughout the developing world. We work with volunteers in the field, local organisations and non profits, schools, community leaders and health care clinics they help us identify those people in genuine need of a bike. These people are those that live in both primative and remote areas, with no access to, nor the means of affording public transportation. The closest school, doctor, or work place might be as far as 10 to 20 miles away. The gift of mobility can make all the difference to a person’s life and help them to break out of the vicious cycle of poverty.
Between dinner courses three locals will talk about and share : A Lands End to John O’ Groats bike ride, Green and sustainable initiatives in Grantown on Spey and taking part in the World Butchers Challenge in the United States.
This is the final event of Sustainable Strathspey’s 2022/23 winter season of climate cafes with Home Energy Scotland, a local building expert and a local installer in attendance.
The general themes to be covered:

Technical advice on insulation improvements and renewable technologies.
Advice on funding streams and practical considerations of undertaking such work.
The purpose of the event is to engage with householders living in or near Strathspey focusing on these topic areas and having experts on hand to answer questions directly. Although the formal part of the session will be for one hour, we are keen for additional bespoke interaction afterwards.
Open to all.
This talk will explore the long-lasting connection between the clan Macpherson and the British empire in India (18th-19th centuries). From the mid-eighteenth century onwards, the Macphersons enjoyed a long and significant association with India, most notably as civil and military servants within the English East India Company. The list of Macphersons serving in the Indian subcontinent is particularly impressive, including several army colonels, interpreters, scholars, legal practitioners, brokering agents and even one governor-general of India.
The talk will uncover the stories of men (and more rarely, women) from Badenoch, Skye and the north-east of Scotland who left home to seek better lives and build careers while amassing a vast fortune repatriated in their own country – very often at the cost of Indian populations.
While highlighting the participation of a ‘global clan’ to the colonial expansion, this talk will also offer a chance to reflect on the impact of cultural exchanges, colonial conquests and army recruitments on the landscape of Badenoch and its inhabitants.
