Discover the histories and mysteries of the Dava Moor in a guided walk led by local historian and author, John Halliday.
Visiting local historic sites and points of interest, you will learn about the people and events and that made the Dava Moor what we know today. John will lead you in an exploration of Gaelic place names, landforms, geology, myths and legends, abandoned crofts, and farming methods. The walk follows estate hill tracks in a loop, with some tracks leading slightly uphill to give outstanding views of the moor looking out over the Moray Firth to the north and Cairngorms to the south.

A guided walk to search for some of the special butterflies and moths of the Cairngorms and Deeside, a stronghold area for a number of nationally rare species. Depending on weather and seasonal variation, these could include Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Kentish Glory, Large Red-belted Clearwing, Narrow-bordered Bee Hawk-moth and Netted Mountain Moth, which all have particular habitat requirements. Learn how to identify them (including Kentish Glory eggs and caterpillars) and find out about surveys you can get involved with to contribute to their conservation.This event is part of the Cairngorms Nature Festival which runs from 12 – 21 May 2023. Skulls, bones and feathers can tell us a huge amount about the animals they come from as well as being fascinating in their own right! Join naturalist and wildlife tracker Dan Puplett to learn how to identify a range of different skulls, other bones and feathers and how they can help us understand more about our fantastic one. Part of the session will be in the bird hide, and we will also go for a short walk to see what clues we can find nearby. Discover the amazing variety of our pollinating insects and what we can do to help these tireless workers!
In the afternoon you can drop in any time between 1 & 3pm to make a small bug hotel to take home (max. 1 per. family), have a go at some pollinator quizzes or artwork and view some of the moths found earlier.

Taster sessions with our fleet of adaptive bikes and off road wheelchairs at Badaguish Outdoor Centre. We have a range of adaptive bikes including trikes, tandem trikes, handcycles, recumbent foot pedals, tag-a-longs and a large bike trailer. Our off road wheelchairs includes a 3 and 4 wheel paratreker (for pushing), an e-power mountain trike and a free wheel attachment for standard manual chairs. The session will allow you time to look at the range of equipment, get fitted to the one that you would to try and go for a test ride. Join the Glenlivet Estate Ranger for a guided walk mostly on circular trail but with detours to Drumin Castle and Twinflower translocation site.
This walk follows a beautiful section of the River Livet where dippers, wagtails and other riparian wildlife are often seen.
It will also visit woodland which contains the rare Twinflower, where we will look for the plant and hear about the translocation project we are working on in conjunction with Plantlife and Cairngorms National Park.
We will then finish up at Drumin Castle hearing a little of its history and enjoy the views across the surrounding hills.
