I travelled up to Grantown on Spey to visit my girlfriend who was on a vet placement in a local veterinary practice and didn’t know what I was in for.
What I found was the most epic mini-break area, away from the hustle and bustle of city life with nothing but mini-adventures, view point walks, unique little places to eat and amazing people.
Adriana and I have been together for a year, and we love exploring places more than anything. What was expected to be just an opportunity to see each other became a weekend of strolling around The Cairngorms, searching for view points.
Luckily I had just bought a new video camera for my business, The SFN EXPO, and taken it with me to show Adriana. We decided to see if we could make a mini movie of a day in Grantown on Spey, from adventure to adventure, so we did, and this was the result!
We kicked off the morning with the best breakfast we’d ever had at a beautiful wee restaurant/cafe called The Wee Puffin, and then went straight towards the start of the View Point 3 walk.
On our return to sea level we went to an amazing small art gallery and cafe, where we sat outside in the sun on bean bags with our cold drinks and snacks before coming inside beside the fire for a couple of coffees.
We took the advice of Claire and Doug from Tulach Ard House (an amazing B+B right on the door step of everything you’ll want to do) that the best pies in the World are served at The Craig Bar. They couldn’t have been more on point… 3 weekends in a row this became!
We topped off the evening with a stroll down to the river beside where we were staying. We mucked about some forestry and had a laugh before turning in. It was an epic day and the rest of the weekend doing more chilling than exploring what’s greatly welcomed!
Getting To Grantown On Spey
It was also surprising how easy it was to get too – if you have a train station near by, it’s simply hop off at Aviemore and the service 34 bus to Grantown on Spey takes you to your weekend away in just a few minutes in exchange for a couple of golden nuggets. More info on how to get to the Cairngorms.
I’d massively recommend Grantown on Spey and anywhere in the Cairngorms for a trip, wherever you may be coming from in the UK. You’re just a train journey away to one of the best mini-break areas to explore in Scotland.
