Boat of Garten Golf & Tennis Club

Established in 1898 Boat of Garten Golf Club is a beautiful 18-hole heathland golf course set alongside the River Spey in the heart of the magnificent Cairngorms National Park.

With championship courses like Castle Stuart, Royal Dornoch and Nairn a few miles to the North, Boat of Garten is the ideal introduction to Highland golf.

It was designed by James Braid, one of the 'Great Triumvirate' of golf with J.H.Taylor & Harry Vardon) and a grand-master of course design - he called it 'one of my prettiest...' Braid's design features 18 completely individual holes with cleverly and sensitively shaped fairways lined with birch and rowan trees, maximising the natural landscape and producing a beautiful and challenging course.

Although difficult to choose from several great holes, the 6th (The Avenue) is often regarded as the course's 'signature' hole.

The narrow tree-lined fairway doglegs to the right and a good drive leaves a mid-iron approach shot to the plateau green, which is guarded by bunkers to the left and right.

As on every hole at Boat of Garten, accuracy is rewarded but beware the wayward driver! The Boat is always wonderfully presented and regularly features in listings of the country's best courses.

Dubbed “the Gleneagles of the North” it has won several awards in recent years including Scotland's No.1 Hidden Gem.

In 2012 National Club Golfer rated Boat of Garten 4th in the UK for Clubs with a green fee below £50, followed in 2013 by a rating of 34th in the UK for courses below £100! In 2014 Today's Golfer ranked the course in Scotland’s top 35 courses and most recently, at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards in late 2014, Boat of Garten won the award for Scotland's Best Course Under £50.

The course is a 'must' for golfers when visiting the Highlands.

The Club welcomes visitors but recommends that you pre-book - simply phone or email to make a reservation.

The Club's PGA Professional, Ross Harrower, provides a well-stocked shop offering golf equipment and clothing plus club repairs, club hire, tuition and advice.

The Clubhouse, with its stunning views from the comfortable sun-lounge and bar, offers a warm and friendly welcome and a high standard of catering to the visitor.

Two well-maintained Tennis Courts are available for those members and visitors looking for an alternative to golf and, in the immediate area, is the RSPB osprey hide at Loch Garten and the Strathspey Steam Railway (the station is a short walk - or a driver and a wedge - from the Clubhouse).

Offer for January and February Winter Green Fee only £15 (full fee £45).
